Description
The Human Resources Intern fills a flexible/ multi-faceted role that ensures our applicants and team members have an optimal experience at NASCAR SpeedPark. The Intern will learn basic office management skills, recruiting and onboarding. Interns will also participate in other HR processes and functions to gain more experience in Human Resources.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contact and schedule applicants for an interview and assist with the interview process.
- Assist with the onboarding process and administrative paperwork for newly hired team members.
- Prepare materials for and lead orientation and communicate with new hires.
- Assist Team Members to find solutions to their challenges/opportunities.
- Assist J1 Students with paperwork, onboarding processes, and orientation.
- Learn file management and how to properly store confidential paperwork.
- Become familiar with different HR processes/procedures and learn our policies to communicate to the team.
- Must be able to work flexible schedule on the needs of the business.

People First:
- Recruiting (look over resumes, call/email applicants, refresh requisitions, schedule interviews).
- Onboarding processes (sending out forms, scheduling orientation, corresponding with new hires through orientation until their first day working with their team.)
- Create welcoming, positive and proactive environment for both the team and the guests.
- Assist HR Representative (Sarah Drew) with tasks at hand.
- Assist with team member communications, such as answering general questions, reaching out to absent employees or finding employees who may come to work when short-handed, troubleshooting technology issues, and similar duties.
- Assist with Orientation and Park Tour.
- Fully embrace the Company Service Excellence Initiative by demonstrating “people first” actions for all internal and external customers and accepting responsibility and accountability for demonstrating empowerment decisions and actions during daily work.
- Adhere to Company ethical requirements, demonstrating the utmost integrity in all professional and personal matters.
- Cross train in other departments to provide support for areas that need an extra hand. This experience will increase practical understanding of jobs and the skills required.
- Promote a Harassment-free workplace by minimizing gossip, treating all team members with respect and reporting inappropriate behavior or conversations that could be considered harassment or discriminatory.
- Relay orientation/interview information and times to leadership regularly.
- Introduction to culture/environment of NASCAR SpeedPark during park tour.
- Provide support to PARC Foundation by assisting with charitable events and being part of the team to provide hardship assistance to team members in need.
- Schedule shipments and help coordinate park mailings for others, including lost and found items.
Always Safe:
- Maintain cleanliness of HR area/orientation room to minimize spread of germs.
- Train important initial basic safety standards, processes and share locations of equipment (AED and First-Aid Room.)
- Input background checks to maintain a safe work environment.
- Communicate, follow and ensure compliance with safety guidelines.
- Follow safe money-handling processes (if assisting in Foods, Admissions or Arcade).
- Report any malfunction or unsafe or suspicious behavior immediately to supervisor.
- Maintain proper cleaning/sanitizing and organizing procedures.
- Use proper radio etiquette.
Remember its Fun:
- Add new hires to Slack.
- Post employee engagement opportunities in breakroom/Slack to boost involvement.
- Help with Area Exchange Program, including maintaining current list of Participants and working with HR Representative (Sarah Drew) and Sales Coordinator (Marlene Danko) to add new Exchange partners.
- Research and implement tools for better communication in the workplace.
- Be enthusiastic and promote a friendly and fun atmosphere for our team members and guests.
- Promote a mutually supportive, unified, “we are all on the same team” relationship with team members in all department and divisions.
- Ability to help support the implementation of incentive programs; work with Management to provide ongoing improvement to incentive programs.
Commit to Excellence:
- Maintain employee file, documentation and employee confidentially.
- Complete forms and files necessary for employment.
- Help with TAF compilation and organization.
- Build employee sourcing reports.
- Put employees into time-clock system.
- Monitor all office machines are in working order, notify leadership as needed.
- Maintain office supplies, paper, toner etc.
- Make copies of forms needed for routine administrative tasks.
- Take inventory of employee uniform components and restock supplies for orientation.
- Record-keeping of uniform deductions and safety shoe reimbursements.
- Use Excel, PowerPoint, and other tools to create spreadsheets and infographics.
- Convey the importance of PARC Values in completing assigned duties and tasks, and coach compliance with standards of excellence, through role modeling, training, praise and reward.
- For all duties requiring training, review and understand all current training materials, provide input to the HR Representative and Management for any suggested updates, and coordinate with HR Representative and Management to support other leaders in both formal training (both as a new hire and classes attended as part of ongoing team member development) and informal “on the job” training/coaching which occurs through daily oversight and engagement with the Team.
- Accurate completion of all reports, checklists, forms and other recordkeeping requirements.
- Attend and embrace all company sponsored professional development and training opportunities to enhance work knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Ensure professional development to enhance work knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Ensure completion of work responsibilities and special projects in accordance with the designated timeframe, as determined by the reporting leader.
- Actively identify areas of improvement and work towards positive changes.
- Provide reporting leader with feedback, ideas and suggestions on a timely basis.
- Must be able to work flexible schedule on the needs of the business and be cross-trained in other departments to assist with park operations as needed.

- Required Education- Actively in-college and pursuing human resources or similar degree.
- Preferred Experience – Familiarity with hospitality work but with a want to improve.
- Certification/Licensure – None
- Specific Vision Requirements – Color and peripheral vision, Close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
- Special Skills – Proficient in Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, Power point, Publisher and other programs or willingness to learn. Proficient with online software, apps and technical equipment or willingness to learn. Excellent communication skills written and verbal. Positive and effective customer service skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time. Effective leadership skills.
